The açai bowl shop has opened its second location in the heart of Central

Over the past few years, several vegan, vegetarian and plant-based restaurants and cafés have popped up in Hong Kong, increasing our access to healthier food options. While I love a good Buddha bowl, green juice or Beyond Burger, nothing beats an açai or smoothie bowl as a healthy treat, especially with the hot and humid weather creeping up during spring.

Husband-and-wife duo KK and Danny Lam are behind the colourful açai treats at Supabowl. After discovering smoothie bowls in Hawaii and falling in love with them, the pair’s goal is to bring their own slice of paradise to the city. With humble beginnings as a stall in Wanchai, Graham Street in Central is Supabowl’s newest home.

The ingredients are sourced from around the world, with the açai coming from Brazil and the fruit sourced from countries like the USA, Mexico, Australia and Thailand. Signature bowls come in three sizes – small ($42), medium ($60) and large ($78) – or you can create your own bowl ($60/medium; $78/large), choosing a smoothie base, fruit and toppings like homemade almond butter.

I recommend trying the Supabowl (açai, strawberries, blueberries, banana, bee pollen, coconut flakes, granola), Firebowl (pitahaya, dragon fruit, blueberries, banana, cacao nibs, coconut flakes, granola) or – my personal favourite –the Cocobowl (açai with coconut water, strawberries, blueberries, banana, pumpkin seeds, coconut chips, granola), which are perfect for a healthy morning or afternoon pick-me-up – seriously tempting for me as the new shop is two streets away from my office.
