Akrame’s original restaurant, located in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, was one of the trendiest openings of 2011. The eponymous chef Akrame, who also opened L’Atelier Vivanda in Paris, worked previously with both Ferran Adria and Pierre Gagnaire and considers the latter to be his mentor. Diners can expect an eclectically styled restaurant with bare concrete walls, relaxed soft furnishings and a touch of French chic. The food is both creative and bursting with flavour and exciting textures and this summer, until the 31 August, guests can enjoy Akrame Benallal’s special summer degustation menu.
Available at lunch and dinner, the new degustation menu comes in 3, 4 and 6 courses during lunch; while 4, 6 and 8 courses are served during dinner. This menu showcases Akrame’s creative, often ingenious, use of ingredients to produce artistic dishes that achieve perfection in texture and taste, and a refinement that is both touching and disconcerting.
Akrame is passionate about seafood and it features in five innovative dishes on the new degustation menu including his elevated reinterpretation of traditional fish and chips, crumbed fried lobster accompanied with tartar sauce, capers and apples. Other delicious options are the intriguing poultry in juice, potatoes and smoked shallots, and the tender pork filet, licorice and turnip.
We can’t wait to try the new menu and perhaps another Michelin star will soon find its way to Ship Street.
During July and August, Akrame Benallal’s degustation menu is priced at:
Lunch:
3-courses for $280; 4-courses for $380; 6-courses for $580; and 8-courses for $788
Dinner:
4-courses for $788; 6-courses for $998; and 8-courses for $1,398
