Wikipedia blocks transferrable to Commons?

Can anyone please cite the relevant policy on this?

  • Are blocks on en:WP (or other projects) transferred to, or enforced on, Commons? (I understand that they're not, but do we state that anywhere?)
  • Are sockpuppet blocks likewise transferred to Commons?
  • Are sockpuppet blocks applied on Commons, in relation to accounts that have not been active on Commons? (we have a policy that non-problematic alt accounts are tolerated here)
  • In what circumstances should behaviour elsewhere (short of a SanFranBan) turn into a Commons block or ban?

Thanks. This is in relation to an ongoing situation re SinghIsFxing Andy Dingley (talk) 22:23, 29 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Concerning sockpuppet blocks, block evasion is still not acceptable. If CUs on any other project have confirmed the user identity to that of a user blocked on Commons this is an automatic block. This happened a lot in the past. I personally tend to think that even without CU, if a user on another project obviously identical to a user blocked on Commons we should block them. Global locks are still relevant, but otherwise we do not block users here if they are socks of non-blocked accounts and do not exhibit problematic behavior here. We do have cross-wiki abuse as an option for a block here unless I miss something. Ymblanter (talk) 06:48, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Just checked now, we have three options for cross-wiki abuse in the dropdown menu for blocks: spambot, vandalism, and CU information. Ymblanter (talk) 06:50, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • To restate the question though, do we have policy for this? Or is it 'admin's whim' again, because that's not a good way for us to work.
We clearly have an established behaviour that accounts banned on other projects are still tolerated on Commons, even if their behaviour elsewhere has been pretty bad. So how does "sock blocking" align with that? If someone is blocked on WP as "a sock" (let's say there's unquestioned CU evidence for that), but that other account has never appeared at Commons, then what's to be done?
Also CU is far from infallible, if someone posts from an IP from a major ISP. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:08, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, yes, Commons:Blocking policy Ymblanter (talk) 11:41, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Which doesn't really address any of this. Although, if anything, it's against such blocks. Andy Dingley (talk) 13:44, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Could you elaborate? Has it helped to find problematic editors that need to be blocked, or are you talking about something else? whym (talk) 08:57, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request unprotection for File:Syrian_civil_war.svg

Since the initial attempt was met with exactly 0 responses from admins, I'm again requesting unprotection for File:Syrian Civil War map.svg. Locked for 3 years in 2021 for an edit war, the situation has undergone numerous drastic changes and the map is woefully outdated. No admin is even overlooking the file, so making our own files and then submitting them as edit requests have done nothing. Requesting un-protection, or at least protection downgrade, so that the map can be edited again. Контфокк (talk) 17:13, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

✓ Granted: Now semi-protected. Will be reverted if the editwar starts again. --Achim55 (talk) 19:10, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
