Welcome to File Requests

This page is a forum for requesting files from other Commons users for pages in Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia articles. Recent sections with no replies for 365 days and sections tagged with {{section resolved|1=--~~~~}} may be archived; for old discussions, see the archives.

Please help translating this page!

Adding a request
  • First, try to find a file on your own (see help on public domain image resources.)
  • For a file of a specific location, it may be possible to contact someone near to the location and request that they take a photo. The nearest photographer tool can help to locate users who are near to specific locations.
  • Link to a page where you want the image to be placed.
  • If possible, include an external link to a picture about the request.
  • Sign your request in case there are questions (use ~~~~).

Boojum pattern on Helium-3[edit]

The article Boojum (superfluidity) is about a visual pattern which arises in physics but contains no image and google only gives results related with boojums patterns in liquid crystals for which the article on them has plenty of images but I can't find one for Helium-3 (copyleft or copyright) which is as the text explain where term was coined, the closest is reference 3 by David Mermin which contains some drawings.

Alina Butaeva[edit]

We have forty pictures of this figure skater, not one of which actually shows her skating. It would be nice to have one. Brianjd (talk) 11:05, 10 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cate Fleming[edit]

Another figure skater with plenty of pictures, but no picture of her actually skating. Can we get one? Brianjd (talk) 11:09, 10 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A quick internet search reveals plenty of photos of this skater skating. 69.167.196.62 14:21, 11 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Footballers' new photos[edit]

Better quality of The Music Man poster[edit]

Hello! I uploaded File:The Music Man poster, 1957.jpg which I am pretty confident is PD to replace enwiki's photo and it's not horrific but it is still pretty compressed and has a watermark, both of which I imperfectly have tried to clean up a bit. I am wondering if anyone can find a better scan of the poster? Thanks! DemonDays64 (talk) 02:06, 1 January 2022 (UTC) (please ping on reply)Reply[reply]

  • @DemonDays64: Hi! I am trying to restore your image using certain techniques, so I have a couple of questions for you:
    • Were the lines on the poster originally "broken", or they need to be full?
    • Are there any points on the original poster that were lost by the compression?

Answer if you are able, and sorry for any grammar mistakes in questions - english is not my native language.

Finnish Continuation War commemorative medals[edit]

I've been working through the Finnish army corps of the en:Continuation War (see e.g. en:Finnish III Corps (Continuation War) and en:Finnish VI Corps (Continuation War)). As far as I can tell, these units did not have dedicated shoulder patches (such as those used by e.g. en:X Corps (United States)) which makes it difficult to find good imagery for the infoboxes. What these corps have, instead, are commemorative crosses such as the Aunuksen risti of the VI Corps (as shown in this CC-BY-ND image) or the Pohjois-Vienan risti of the III Corps (shown in this CC-BY-ND image). Since the no derivatives licenses prevent me from using these otherwise excellent images, I'm asking for help in sourcing Commons-compatible versions. Further non-free references can be browsed on e.g. this website. Thanks, -Ljleppan (talk) 09:17, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The New Waiting Room Picture of Ogyu Station (荻生駅) and Higashi Yatsuo (東八尾駅) in Toyama Prefecture (富山県), Japan[edit]

It seems that Ogyu Station has been request for nearly 3 years but still no one can take or find a CC photo of the new Station/platform house.

Also the reconstruction of Higashi Yatsuo Station's waiting room has been done for 3 years and again no any updated.

This coming COMICON Toronto; need photographs of Degrassi High guests[edit]

Hello! I edit a lot of pages related to the show Degrassi High. A few of the actors could do with better infobox images on their pages, and it happens that three of them are to appear at the upcoming COMICON in Toronto on March 19th; Pat Mastroianni, Stacie Mistysyn and Amanda Stepto. I've been looking for higher quality and updated images for these guys for months, so would somebody on this site who is already going with a camera be able to photograph these guys at the panel? Women engaged in oil wrestling?[edit]

Hello, it looks like (Turkish) oil wrestling is also practiced by women, and there are female competitions. To illustrate the fact it would be nice to get an image of female oil wrestlers in the typical outfit. Note: I am not talking about the erotically-inclined showfights showing women in bikinis, or nude women wrestling. I really mean women in the typical combat dresses (which resemble one-piece swimsuits). -Eptalon (talk) 19:45, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Puffball skirt[edit]

chef's kiss[edit]

wikt:chef's kiss. File:Chef icon.svg is pretty good, and I'll default to using that in the absence of anything better. But an image where the fingers are closer to the lips would be ideal. That seems to be what you get when searching on Google or DuckDuckGo. Without that aspect, it's pretty much just the basic OK symbol. 70.172.194.25 00:41, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

brouilleur[edit]

wikt:brouilleur. Note that I'm referring to the English term for a bowl-like device related to absinthe, not the French word for "jammer" which brings up images like File:Jammersprocom-jammer-b97-2.jpg on Google. 70.172.194.25 00:58, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

citrumelo[edit]

desktop mascot[edit]

wikt:desktop mascot. Might be difficult to find something existing that's not copyrighted, since the phenomenon generally involves the use of anime characters. But maybe someone can make one of Wikipe-tan. Reminds me of BonziBuddy... 70.172.194.25 04:07, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Disney point[edit]

wikt:Disney point. Note that we have Category:Pointing and even Category:Palm pointing, and this is a similar gesture. I also looked through Category:Two-finger gestures. This photo has the right general finger placement, but better examples could be found/produced (and the description indicates that the intended context was quite, uh, different). 70.172.194.25 04:25, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

donkey stool[edit]

wikt:donkey stool, also known as a 'drawing bench' and various other terms. I think this is something like [1], not [2]. 70.172.194.25 04:39, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not ideal, but there's a 1975 patent for "artist's horse" which may be in the public domain per {{PD-US-patent}}, and this has an illustration: [3], [4]. The illustrations in these patents may be even better, but I don't know whether they're PD: [5], [6].
It's surprisingly hard to find a free photo of the object, even though there are lots of non-free ones. 70.172.194.25 19:47, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

flooring nailer[edit]

wikt:flooring nailer. Tool. This is a specific subcategory of Category:Nail guns that seems different from the photos currently listed, cf. Google Images. 70.172.194.25 21:06, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not ideal, but this 1966 patent has an illustration that seems to be the same tool: [8] (note the angle and how they describe it as "particularly adapted for use in the nailing of hardwood flooring"). 70.172.194.25 20:14, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hlawga (Burmese boat)[edit]

wikt:လှော်ကား. This may be a long shot, since I'm not even able to find non-free images, but I'm sure some representation of it exists somewhere. I'd like confirmation that the boat depicted is a hlawga, since there are various other kinds of ornamented ancient Burmese boats. 70.172.194.25 04:21, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

tripping[edit]

wikt:spænde ben. Based on the usage example at ordnet.dk talking about how it is unsportsmanlike for athletes to do it, intentional tripping may be intended. I saw Category:Tripping but only one of the images really illustrates this action, namely this one, and that is kind of grainy and not of optimal quality (but if nothing better is found, I'd happily use it). I'm surprised there aren't more photos of people tripping as it is a rather basic verb (whether by accident, or by someone else's malice as in the Danish verb). 70.172.194.25 05:01, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

LØREN,Alissic and Drop Dead[edit]

Hi everyone. I'm currently working on an article about the South Korean musician LØREN on Wikipedia and I'd like to have some pics of him.

  • A pic from the Paris Fashion Week Show 2022
  • A pic from one of his songs (Empty Trash, Need or All My Friends Are Turning Blue - I would prefer one from All My Friends Are Turning Blue if it's possible)
  • Lastly, one pic of him while he is singing or playing guitar would be really useful.

Also, I'm writing an article about Brazilian musician Alissic. I do not have a specific image to request but any that is recent is OK. A specific one would be if there was a pic of her while she is singing. 3 I think are enough but as many as you can are welcome.

To conclude, for my future project, the logo of the brand Drop Dead and in one picture the symbols of the collections.

To be honest, I would do it on my own but I don't understand all the license things but if I did, I wouldn't have the time to do so. For any questions, you can ask me on my Talk Page on Wikipedia. Or, on my Commons Discussion, but I generally prefer Wikipedia's one because I log in there more often than Commons'. (if you upload something close to that, please inform me on my talk pages) Thank you in advance for everything. Fisforfenia (talk) 16:21, 17 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Power Rangers command[edit]

I'd like to request an image of the Power Rangers Command. In reality it a building "House of the Book" designed by architect w:Sidney Eisenshtat located at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute of the AJU Los Angeles, which has appeared in various film and television productions. I think an image of this location could potentially be used in several articles. I found a Creative Commons licensed image at Flickr that might be suitable: https://www.flickr.com/photos/katerw/2585115780/ If this file is acceptable I think uploaded page name should be House of the Book, ie no "the" prefix[14]. If not perhaps there are students from AJU active in the project and they might be willing to provide an image? Thanks in advance. -- 109.76.195.193 02:17, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tanner Novlan[edit]

Hello,

I would like to request an image to be uploaded of model and actor Tanner Novlan. I found that without an image of the actor, his main Wikipedia biography page as well as other articles are severely lacking and do not serve to inform the readers properly on what the content of those pages. An image of the actor would be added to many articles. I wonder if I could get some help in finding an image of the actor that adheres to Wikipedia licensing guidelines and copyright policies? The actor also recently attended the 61st Monte Carlo TV Festival, that occurred this past June, thus I was hoping that an image or a photographer who also attended the event may have uploaded a Creative Commons licensed image. If not from this event, any other image of the actor would be suitable. Thank you so much! — AwardShowFan123 (talk) 21:28, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Photos of Cochlear implant sound processors[edit]

Commons does not have photos of many models and brands of cochlear implant sound processors, and many of the photos that we do have on Commons are copyright violations and/or poor quality (ex, blurry, out of focus, low reslution). I would like to be able to have usable photos (ideally standalone photos of the external hardware on a blank background, like this example) of:

  • Cochlear Nucleus Freedom (we need a standalone photo of one)
  • Advanced Bionics Neptune (we have only a pic of one being worn during a marathon, but the device is barely visible)
  • Individual photos of pre-Harmony Advanced Bionics processors (such as Platinum, Clarion, Platinum BTE, CII BTE, etc)
  • MED-EL body-worn processors (such as Comfort CI System, COMBI 40, CIS PRO+)
  • MED-EL TEMPO+, OPUS 1 & 2, RONDO 1, Rondo 2, and SONNET 1

Browntop millet (Brachiaria ramosa, syn. Urochloa ramosa), again[edit]

I previously made a request (Commons:File_requests/Archive/2022#Brachiaria_ramosa), which was helpfully answered by User:Pius and resulted in the uploading of File:Brachiaria ramosa from Ambanja, Madagascar.jpg. This is a good photo, but I think there are even more photos that could be uploaded for this species. On iNaturalist, there are several photos tagged with the CC BY license. Pius said that they were all under the unfree CC BY-NC/ND licenses, but that doesn't appear to be the case as far as I can see. Specifically, the photos under this observation by Sam Kieschnick and this observation by Douglas Goldman appear to be CC-BY-licensed, and some of them seem pretty illustrative. 70.172.194.25 18:04, 24 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

5th century Artwork, Pawaya Gwalior Madhya Pradesh, India[edit]

Looking for this artwork. Every photo that I've found of this artwork is copyrighted. Especially need clear closeups of the veena-harp and the veena-lute. The artifact to photograph is housed at the Gujari Mahal, an archaeological museum in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. India.

Importance: this artwork has one of the clearest views of early Indian stringed instruments. The image is needed to help clarify India's contribution to music worldwide (through early development of lute and harp). On the English- language Wikipedia is needed for: Veena, Ancient vina, Arched harp (currently being written at w:User:Jacqke/bow harp, and History of lute-family instruments. Roman reliefs in the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts[edit]

The Budapest Museum of Fine Arts has three pieces of relief sculpture that come from an important Roman monument of the early empire celebrating the Battle of Actium. They were originally part of the collection of the first Duke of Alcala and the other surviving parts of the monument are in Spain (two pieces in Seville and several others in Cordoba). The three pieces in Budapest are this slab and these two smaller fragments. I wonder if there's contributor in Hungary who might be able to visit the museum and get photos of these pieces to upload to the commons. In addition to overall views, I'd like to request details of the small figures depicted on the tensa (the empty ritual chariot) in the larger relief. Thanks, Choliamb (talk) 18:04, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Images from a 1878 magazine titled "St. Nicholas" for article "The King of Love"[edit]

Is it possible to scan only the images from a magazine named "St. Nicholas", dated 1878? I just need the images from pages 103-104, as seen in this archive.org link to use on article "The King of Love" (Lu Re d'Amuri), a variant of Cupid and Psyche. Thank you. Image from a 1884 Italian book of fairy tales[edit]

I'm requesting an upload of the image on top of page 117 (girl with a circular box), for Prunella (fairy tale), since it depicts a scene from the story. Thank youKHR FolkMyth (talk) 03:41, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Short-track speed skating world cups[edit]

I would love for someone to cover the w:short-track speed skating world cup in Dresden (Germany) or Dordrecht (Netherlands) in February 2023.

I'm happy to help submit a grant request to Wikimedia to cover travel and housing costs (entrance at the event is usually free, but if not, happy to help with that too), and to sort through the photos before upload or during categorization.

I'm a terrible photographer and it's killing me that most pro skaters are either not illustrated on Wikipedia or illustrated with a blurry smartphone photo taken at an early 2010s competition. I'll go and take my own blurry smartphone photos from the early 2020s if needed, but if anyone has any talent, it would probably be much better Face-smile.svg Exilexi (talk) 11:58, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Exilexi: have you asked on german wiki or com:forum? with so many german users probably someone good at photographing sports is going.
i have no talent either XD, and i only have a canon rp + the most basic lens, but if no one else is going i can try my best.--RZuo (talk) 12:11, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Are you sure that you cannot upload a new image version? Do you have "Upload a new version of this file" in "File history" section? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:07, 19 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Place clearly allowing camping but has no infrastructure whatsoever[edit]

Ideal picture would be like https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:Camp_site_backcountry.jpg - clearly no infrastructure at all, clear language-independent marker of designated camping site. I am fine if it is just cropping and site has actual infrastructure not visible on photo.

So far https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Refuge_Cove,_Wilsons_Promontory_National_Park_12.jpg was found where this marker is not well-visible (previous search attempt was on [17] and as of now better one was not found)

I would appreciate help if someone can take or find a better image (I tried searching on Flickr but failed to find anything like that)

Fives bat[edit]

Hey all,

I recently wrote a section on Bat Fives, an old English sport here, and I'd like a picture of the bat used. There are several online, but I cannot find one with free use rights. If anyone a) has access to the w:Radley School Archives (they have a couple there) and could take a picture, or could find a copyright-free picture of one, that'd be amazing.
