This page is about wikimedia user feed back on welcome messages.

The Commons runs a "welcome bot" that automatically posts a {{Welcome}} message to all registered users who have made at least one edit. We want to make this message as effective as possible to maximise its usefulness and minimise new user mistakes and confusion.

If you have received a welcome message, you are welcome to comment on the message here. As well as general feedback, you might like to answer these questions:

  1. Do you read welcome messages, skim over them or ignore them?
  2. Did you find our welcome message useful? Did it tell you something you didn't know before but might need to know?
  3. Is there other information which you think it is vital for new users to know, which our welcome message doesn't currently include?

Not user friendly[edit]

I have a notification saying I've been left a message, but I haven't really been left a message, just some welcome boilerplate. It is confusing. No idea why I've been left it all of a sudden. It is not a good very way to get people onboard. —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.177.9.239 (talk) 15:24, 17 March 2017‎ (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Signing your posts on talk pages is required and it is a Commons guideline to sign your posts on deletion requests, undeletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and a timestamp will then automatically be added when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). It is probably because you made your first edit here as a logged-in user, but I can't tell because you didn't stay logged in. It is confusing. Please login.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 08:21, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New to WikiCommons[edit]

Hello, I am not quite sure how to reach out to a user on Wiki, but I would like to ask Ninjatacoshell about the attribution of the File:Medicago italica root nodules 2.JPG under the Creative Commons license CC BY-SA 3.0

Thank you, NatScience1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by NatScience1 (talk • contribs) 20:09, 29 June 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@NatScience1: The attribution should be "Ninjatacoshell", "https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Ninjatacoshell", or "Ninjatacoshell at Wikimedia Commons".   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 08:15, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

User talk:Alex42[edit]

I got this boilerplate beeing 8 years onboard wikipedia, so it did not help me much. A short personal message, or non at all, would be better. Alex42 (talk) 22:35, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Alex42: Welcome, and thanks for your edits here so far. I'm sorry that the welcome template did not help you much, and that Wikimedia Commons Welcome is not smart enough to look at your Wikipedia contributions.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 08:15, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Alpicat Shield

This Alpicat shield that is being disseminated on the Internet is not the one that we have used in our municipality since its approval and it is creating a lot of confusion and annoyance for us. In the file of approval of the shield, deposited in the City Council, there is, among other documentation, a drawing of the shield, the resolution of the Directorate General of Local Administration, the report of the heraldic adviser Armand de Fluviá, which was used for the approval of shield and notification to the City Council. We would appreciate if you could replace your image with the one that we have always used and that we have tried to update on the page, since it is the image that we consider correct (because it appears in the aforementioned file). Greetings,

Hola y bienvenido. ¿Exactamente dónde podemos encontrar los escudos incorrectos y correctos en línea?
Hi, and welcome. Exactly where can we find the incorrect and correct shields online?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 18:05, 26 October 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Error concerning the Voice of Deliverance Full Gospel Church of God, Crawley.[edit]

To whom it may concern

I found an error in the article below.

It concerns the word Mauritanian. This word means qualifies a person from Mauritania on the continent of Africa. Actually the correct word should be Mauritian meaning a person from the Island of Mauritius in the Indian ocean.

Thank you
