Picture of the Year 2021
Please add a link to promote the Picture of the Year 2021 competition. GeorgHH • talk 17:16, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
Picture of the day
Caption of Picture of the Day mentions: "Nile monitor lizard (Varanus niloticus). Kenya gained Independence from the United Kingdom on 12 December 1963." I fail to see the connection. Vysotsky (talk) 08:40, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Picture of eel - Dec. 17
Could an admin change the caption on today's photo from "shot during a night dive" to "photographed during a night dive". Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:04, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

{{Edit request}} The picture is not visible without clicking it. Could someone please fix that? --TadejM (t/p) 00:44, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

- @TadejM: It appears that someone purged the right page, or an automated process finally got around to it. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:53, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Yesterday, it did not help to purge the page and the image was also incorrectly displayed in other language versions and on mobile. However, I was unable to find any template edit in Recent changes that would make it suddenly appear as it happened. Perhaps something changed at the server side. --TadejM (t/p) 11:58, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- @TadejM: Did you also purge {{Main Page Template}}, Main Page/potd, {{Potd/2022-12-21}}, and File:AucklandPano MC.jpg? Each day, POTD will be dynamically computed to show in this section at {{Potd/2023-01-03}}. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:09, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G., I only purged the Main Page and {{Potd/2022-12-21}}, but I doubt caching was the true reason. In case a page needs to be purged, it shows older content, not just a square icon like a broken image link (similar to this). The image was displayed correctly at the image description page. --TadejM (t/p) 12:20, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- @TadejM: Did you check the 500px thumbnail https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b5/AucklandPano_MC.jpg/500px-AucklandPano_MC.jpg ? — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:31, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G., I didn't do that. --TadejM (t/p) 12:33, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
Error in MOTD description
"...where the eponym character meets Santa Claus," should be "where the eponymous character meets Santa Claus", as it is an adjective. Heavy Water (talk) 21:24, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
POTD: Alder props
{{Edit requested}} Hi. The POTD supposedly shows "alder props (cones without seed)".[1] Why are they defined as 'cones without seed'? This seems like an error to me as alder cones do contain seed.[2] Also, is there any reliable source for the term 'prop'? --TadejM (t/p) 00:12, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
- I've temporarily changed the description[3] pending confirmation that everything is fine here. (@User:Well-Informed Optimist) --TadejM (t/p) 00:18, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
- I've copied the text from the image description. —Well-Informed Optimist (talk) 10:21, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. As there has been no clarification so far, I've tagged the image with {{Factual accuracy}} and asked the uploader to provide the relevant information to reassure us everything is fine here.[4] --TadejM (t/p) 10:28, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
- The cones are open, so no doubt most of the seeds are dispersed. Not sure there is a English term for empty cones, I expect 'props' is just a transliteration from the Dutch. "Empty cones" would suffice. --Tony Wills (talk) 21:51, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. I have now removed {{Factual accuracy}} and slightly rephrased the English description (replaced the unknown term 'props' with 'cones'). Feel welcome to edit it further. --TadejM (t/p) 00:23, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
