Goodies, tips, and tricks

To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.

Wiki Loves Earth 2021[edit]

bald ist es soweit: Vom 1. Mai bis zum 31. Mai 2021 findet zum neunten Mal der internationale Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Earth statt. Deutschland ist zum achten Mal dabei. Dabei können unter anderem Nationalparks, Naturschutzgebiete, Geotope und Naturdenkmäler fotografiert und die Fotos hochgeladen werden. Du hast an einem der vergangenen Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen. Deshalb laden wir dich ein, auch dieses Jahr wieder mitzumachen. Wir freuen uns auf deine Fotos!

Wie du bei den Top 5 des vergangenen Jahres siehst, sind vor allem Tiere unter den Siegerbildern. Aus diesem Grund setzen wir den Fokus dieses Jahr stärker auf Landschaftsaufnahmen. Aber natürlich haben auch Tierbilder eine Chance zu gewinnen.

Es sind wie immer viele spannende Motive überall in Deutschland zu finden. Neben Naturdenkmälern wie alten Bäumen oder Naturparks im Gebirge und am Meer können Geotope wie Findlinge, Quellen und Aufschlüsse oder FFH-Gebiete fotografiert werden, um sie unter anderem in der Wikipedia zu dokumentieren. Auch im vergangenen Jahr sind zahlreiche neue Listen und Artikel in diesen Bereichen entstanden, für die wir uns über Fotos freuen. Als Einstieg für die Suche nach Motiven hilft diese Übersichtsseite. Weitere Informationen erhältst du bei WLE 2021 - Deutschland und unter dieser Anleitung. Falls du im Moment nicht wie sonst in die Natur fahren kannst, findest du vielleicht in den Tiefen deiner Festplatte oder auf dem Smartphone noch interessante Fotos.

Du bist interessiert, am Wettbewerb mitzuwirken, dir fehlt aber die richtige Technik? Dann wirf doch mal einen Blick in den Technikpool und das Technikleihportal von Wikimedia Deutschland! Dort findest du Kameras, Objektive und Zubehör verschiedenster Art.

Außerdem laden wir Dich ein, vom 1. Mai bis 30. Juni 2021 an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Damit bewertest du die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelst so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die im Juli tagen wird, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Earth 2021 in Deutschland. Das Vorjurytool ist bald hier freigeschaltet. Du benötigst dafür nur deinen Benutzernamen und das Passwort.

Where published please?[edit]

With regard to Commons:Deletion requests/File:Trinidad School in 1913.jpeg, please identify the publication in which this was published prior to 1926? I don't see a publication but you referenced it in your close. Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:11, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Ellin Beltz: for US law, Publication has a technical meaning in copyright law. According to the statute, “Publication is the distribution of copies or phonorecords of a work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending. The offering to distribute copies or phonorecords to a group of persons for purposes of further distribution, public performance, or public display constitutes publication. A public performance or display of a work does not of itself constitute publication.” Generally, publication occurs on the date on which copies of the work are first made available to the public. For further information see Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Publication.”

the photo was a group photo for the school in that year.

the only possibility for the photo to be "not published" is if the photo studio never gave the photo to anyone. since it was a group photo for a school, this would be highly unlikely. i think we can assume with confidence the photo must have been offered to the school or anyone in that photo. that distribution was publication.--RZuo (talk) 21:08, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I find your interpretation interesting as so very many other situations have gone the other way. So you are saying that the day a photo is published in Facebook, or the day someone hands out a copy of an image starts the copyright clock? That's an interesting position, but one which rarely settles like that in Deletion Nominations. Could you provide some links to former situations where this has been applied? this kind of group photo was most probably a photo for the group to keep, and it was quite possibly a sale, unlike other kinds of studio portrait/artistic photographs of single persons which could just be for the photographers' personal enjoyment.--RZuo (talk) 22:06, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Excuse me, may I ask some help? recently on the DR page, the nominator complained about the notability of the source YouTube channel of the videos, but AFAIK, there is no "notability" requirement of the source of files on Commons imposed by many of the Wikipedia sites (see the differences between Wikipedia policies and Commons' ones ), and the use of files on Commons on other Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia articles ("If an article on the subject of the video exists, ..." the nominator said) is not necessarily demanded to offer educational value because files on Commons can also be used outside of Wikimedia projects(that's why files on Commons are freely licensed). For example there is no "All of these videos must be used in Wikipedia articles" restriction imposed such as these videos (Category:Videos_about_COVID-19) Also, the license info of the videos has been archived ("source" section of each description page of the videos) and CC license is irrevocable, and some of the videos has successfully been reviewed already, this is an example. Superfluous images[edit]

Hi, I am answering there because at the category discussion started kind of edit war with the taylor. I do not like to delete the work of others - but for many uploads it would be the best solution! Instead of requesting deletion I collected poor & unused raster images in that category, with the main intention that not a user finds such an image and uses it. Better than to keep such crap would be to make good SVG files when needed. Unfortunately my categorizing was fighted by others, so I stopped my efforts; it is not so essential to me, I just had been trying to get a better ordering system. Dabei können Bau-, Boden- und Kulturdenkmale fotografiert und die Fotos hochgeladen werden. Du hast an einem der vergangenen Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen. Deshalb laden wir dich gern wieder ein, dieses Jahr mitzumachen. Wir freuen uns auf deine Fotos!

Sieger 2021 – Schloss Langenburg

Vergangenes Jahr hat Matthias Süßen mit einer Drohnenaufnahme von Schloss Langenburg im Morgennebel gewonnen. Welcher Fotograf wird dieses Jahr sein Nachfolger?

Nach WLM 2022 sind wieder zahlreiche neue Denkmallisten entstanden – zum Beispiel die Denkmallisten in Cloppenburg oder in Oldenburg.

Wir haben dieses Jahr unter dem Motto „Klein aber Oho“ drei Sonderpreise für Kleindenkmale ausgelobt. Damit sollen Fotos prämiert werden, die die unterschätzten Kleindenkmale wie Grenzsteine oder Bildstöcke zeigen.

Für die Suche nach Motiven gibt es bei Wikipedia zahlreiche Listen und Karten. Als Einstieg hilft diese Übersichtsseite. Weitere Informationen erhältst du auf der Mitmach-Seite.

Außerdem laden wir Dich ein, ab Anfang September 2022 an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Diese bewertet die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelt so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die im Oktober tagt, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Monuments 2022 in Deutschland. Das Vorjurytool ist hier bald freigeschaltet. Du benötigst dafür nur deinen Benutzernamen und das Passwort.

Edit of category[edit]

Hi RZuo,

I think this picture (https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Sun_(195390785).jpeg&curid=71469905&diff=721876681&oldid=721875724) fits better in the previous category. We don't know where that picture was shoot. It was imported with other pictures and every single one has the same coordinates, which are clearly wrong, see for example this picture of Senglea in Malta: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sun_(195390773).jpeg that has coordinates that point to Alba County as well. i removed your cat because panorama refers to a "wide-angle view" like File:Puesta de sol, desierto de Namib, Namibia, 2018-08-05, DD 84-90 PAN.jpg, so here on commons we only categorise such images as panoramas.
