Wax figures[edit]

Wax sculptures are sculptures and are subject to copyright. Photos of wax sculptures are derivative works.

The following files are also of wax statues:

The first two are in London; the last is in Hong Kong. Pruneautalk 15:19, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

After reading the previous deletion requests for the statues, what constitutes "permanent"? If a cafe erects a sculpture, which the owner says it is going to be there forever, and the cafe was torn down 5 years later due to a government reconstruction plan, is that "permanent"? The Kingmaker exhibit at Warwick Castle, File:Warwick prepping for Barnet.jpg has been around since 1995; is it permanent? Jappalang (talk) 05:59, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
According to Commons:Freedom_of_panorama#Permanent_vs_temporary, what matters is the intention. In your cafe example, the intention was to have the sculpture there permanently, so FOP would apply. Pruneautalk 14:25, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Symbol delete vote.svg Delete, all per Commons:Deletion requests/Madame Tussauds and Commons:Deletion requests/Wax figures at Tussauds. Exception only for those figures realy intended to be placed permanently according to MichaelMaggs comment in Commons:Deletion requests/Wax figures at Tussauds. I also like to add the following:

File:Estatua Vma08.jpg, File:Britney-Spears Estatua.jpg, File:Julia Roberts (1).jpg, File:Shirley Bassey wax sculpture.jpg, File:AnitaMuiStatue.jpg, File:EHemingway.JPG, File:Eminem01.png, File:Johnny Sparrow.jpg.
The Anita mui statue picture is staying. Her statue was already on public display. She is deceased and no free image have surfaced. The choice was non-free image of mui, or a free image of the statue. Also please do not assume these copyright laws from other Madame Tussaud museums are the same as the HK and shanghai museums. Not nominated but unsure about:

File:HK MadameTussaudsHK BruceLee.JPG

and Wax figures from other locations, probably they are also artwork:

File:Wax karim khan.jpg, File:Ratana Pestonji.jpg, File:Jonny Wilkinson Statue - Trafalgar Square - London, England - October 19th 2007..jpg (public place, but not permanently), File:AjahnMun.JPG... and probably a lot more.

Symbol delete vote.svg Delete Hi, I am here to talk only about File:EHemingway.JPG, which was uploaded by me. I had taken this in NY and did not know about COM:FOP status in United States. I would request an admin to go ahead and delete the photograph I uploaded and run a commons de-linker bot to clean it up from various wikis (if anyone else found it useful). I know about the ml wiki usage, which I have already removed from. Martin, thank you for pointing it out. --Jyothis (talk) 21:38, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Um, why does copyright paranoia string to mind?Dr. Blofeld (talk) 16:33, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
For the NY wax figures (Hemingway): they are unfree, no dispute. For adding one of your images here: The discussion is ongoing, the reason is the same, so why not adding images with the same concern? --Martin H. (talk) 16:37, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment I would like to add File:Tupac Shakur.jpg for deletion. --Karppinen (talk) 16:48, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
