Soon-to-launch food app KIN is all about building a community.

KIN is the brainchild of F&B entrepreneurs Matt Reid, Jonathan Yeoh and Malcolm Wood (also of restaurant group Maximal Concepts). They are challenging the traditional model of food delivery in ways that are financially, socially and environmentally more beneficial. The trio have partnered with chefs from all around Asia – to include Michelin-starred chefs such as Richard Ekkebus as well as up-and-coming talent – to offer a highly curated menu of dishes on the KIN app.

The app targets high-density urban areas – Taikoo Place’s Devon House will be the first brick-and-mortar location later this year – and utilises on-site kitchens managed by seasoned chefs, circular packaging and carbon-free transport to provide delivery of freshly cooked food that is less costly and delivered faster (and, on the back end, with less waste and improved supply-chain management). We’re told that a more compact delivery zone will allow KIN meals to be completely circular by 2025.

In terms of the dishes available, the KIN team have reached out to chefs across the region in order to design a curated list of great food. KIN has already franchised over 220 dishes from 45 well-known chefs, including Richard Ekkebus (Amber), Matt Abergel (Yardbird) and Peggy Chan (Grassroots Initiatives), who will be serving up their signature dishes in addition to some KIN exclusives. Every dish (and every chef) will have its story told via a short-form video on the app, and diners will be able to order any item from multiple chefs in one basket, up to 48 hours in advance.

Matt Reid, CEO of KIN, explains the reasoning behind KIN, “The food industry is in crisis. We believe we need to create systemic change to drive real meaningful impact. Our mission is to create technologies to change the way we eat. KIN enables whole districts to have access to exciting food from food innovators, made with regenerative agriculture, seamlessly available, digitally led, with carbon-free delivery. This is the first integrated food solution that learns what a building wants to eat. We have built KIN to be highly scalable and plan to expand into every urban vertical community.”
