Hong Kong‘s first home-grown contemporary matcha brand has found a temporary home at LANDMARK. With ceremonial-grade matcha sourced from a fifth-generation tea farm in Uji, Kyoto (the birthplace of matcha), Matchali hopes to create a tranquil spot for green-tea connoisseurs and the green-tea curious.
Visiting on a hot summer’s day, we opted for iced versions of their signature beverages. The classic iced matcha latte ($55) has a strong, rich flavour that will satisfy any hardcore matcha fan. Being big matcha fans ourselves, the very Instagrammable starburst matcha ($65), made with raspberry, matcha, mango and pea flower milk, was not our favourite, but the refreshing, sweet flavour is a good option for those new to the bitter taste of matcha. For a caffeine-free kick, the grey latte ($55), made black from charcoal and black sesame, was absolutely delightful, with a strong black sesame flavour.
The Matchali pop-up will be at LANDMARK in Central until 31 October 2020. If you love green tea very matcha, be sure to stop by.
