We’ve all had just about enough of pandemic rules, but while there isn’t a big-ticket Marco Polo German Bierfest on the cards again this year, we still have a good number of options that involve great German food and drink. Ein prosit der Gemütlichkeit!

BaseHall (rescheduled to 23 October)

BaseHall Hong Kong Oktoberfest party

Save Saturday, 9 October 23 October (thanks, Tropical Storm Lionrock) for the BaseHall Oktoberfest party. The first session, from 11am–4pm, will be geared towards kids and families, with cookie decorating (Lebkuchenherzen) by The Nest Bakery, a ring toss and face-painting. Then, starting at 5pm and going until late, the food hall will transform into a Bavarian beer tent with steins, lederhosen, an oompah band and Bavarian festivities aplenty. The day will showcase special offerings from the various BaseHall vendors such as Weisswurst, schnitzel, sauerkraut, a Schweinshaxe burger, schnapps and a specially brewed festbier by Young Master. Tickets are $50 for the first session and $150 for the late session and are available now via Eventbrite.

Beerliner German Bar & Restaurant (October)

Beerliner will have a special combo available throughout October at their Langham Place and Tuen Mun Town Plaza outlets. Order a crusted dry-aged rib-eye steak with thyme-butter sauce, smoked salmon cake and potato salad or roasted suckling pig with smoked pork loin, pork cheeks in stout sauce, mashed potato and salad for $298 per set, including an Erdinger Dunkel or Erdinger Weissbier.

Captain’s Bar at Mandarin Oriental (until 2 October)

From now until 2 October, Captain’s Bar at the Mandarin Oriental is offering two types of German beer on tap: Löwenbräu, the official beer of Oktoberfest in Germany and the original brew of Bavarian kings, and Franziskaner Weissbier, a traditionally brewed Bavarian beer from Munich. Complement your pints with a selection of Oktoberfest classics including currywurst, Weisswurst, meatloaf and apple strudel. Available daily, 6–10:30pm.

DEADMAN Brewery Oktoberfest party (29 & 30 October)

DEADMAN Oktoberfest 2021

Join the party on 29 and 30 October for the first Oktoberfest beer festival hosted by DEADMAN Brewery, focusing on German-style brews made here in Hong Kong. The entrance fee ($380/person) includes six tokens and a beer glass - and access to all of the three sessions! The tokens can be exchanged for either a drink or a serving of German food such as sausages or pork knuckle, and you will be able to purchase additional tokens.

The first session is German Style on Friday, 29 October from 6pm (with additional beers from Moonzen, H.K. Lovecraft, Black Kite and Hong Kong Beer Co). On Saturday, 30 October, there are two sessions – first is Hoppy Style from 1–6pm (with Moonzen, Hong Kong Whistle, Double Haven, Black Kite, Hong Kong Beer Co and H.K. Lovecraft) and then Sour and Free Style from 6pm (with Moonzen, Tai Wai, Black Kite, Hong Kong Beer Co, H.K. Lovecraft and Neonotic Cidery).

Docktoberfest at Dockyard (8–31 October)

Docktoberfest at Dockyard 2021

Docktoberfest returns to Dockyard at Kerry Hotel. Join the party for plenty of free-flow beer, with the option to purchase German food including crispy pork knuckle, pork schnitzel or a wurst platter. During the weekend party (14–17 October), games such as stein holding will take place nightly at 7pm and 8pm. It’s priced at $250 per person for three hours of free-flow draught beer (Stella Artois and Löwenbräu), but remember to enjoy the early-bird offer at $230 for your pre-paid ticket, available one day in advance. FRITES Central (1–3 October)

Oktoberfest 2021 at Frites

Enjoy Bavarian fare in a convivial beer-hall atmosphere at FRITES in Central. Kick off the festivities with a complimentary FRITES limited-edition one-litre stein (to take home) filled with ice-cold Löwenbräu. Top up with a 500ml stein ($85), one-litre stein ($150) or share an impressive three-litre barrel ($450). Then dig into Bavarian roast chicken with German spices and frites ($195), sample wurst and sauerkraut ($195) or stick to the comfort-food fave of hot dog with jalapeño Kransky sausage ($95). A host will lead a variety of German-inspired games during each of two daily sessions on 1, 2 and 3 October: 12–5pm and 6–11pm. Tickets are $250.

From 4–16 October, find a seat in the Beer Garden on the upper-ground floor of The Murray from 4:30–10pm for the Garden Oktoberfest, where a host of premium beers and gourmet German food will be served. Beer highlights include Gweilo Oktoberfest Märzen, Gweilo Oktoberfest Helles and a Young Master Festbier Märzen, all available in pints ($78), half-pints ($58) and one-litre steins ($138). There will be some delicious pork knuckle with pickled red cabbage ($225), Nürnberger sausages with sauerkraut and mash ($95), pretzels ($30) and live entertainment too, and – if that isn’t enough – the venue is also dog friendly. Entry is only by reservation – early-bird tickets are $100 until 30 September ($125 after that) and include one pint of beer.

GRAIN Oktoberfest party (13, 14 & 29th October)

The GRAIN Brewlab in K-Town is up and running, and fresh from the fermenters is an all-German malt Gweilo Oktoberfest Festbrew lager and a crisp, refreshing Oktoberfest Helles. They are planning a party, of course! Join them on Wednesday, 13 October from 7–10 pm (sold out) and Thursday, 14 October from 3–6 pm, showcasing a six-piece oompah band performance by Der Hong Kong Oktoberfest Blaskapelle and MC Herr von Speigel. The ticket price is $280 per person and includes a currywurst hot dog and a Festbrew.

Featuring six festive beers selected carefully by the brew crew, HK Brewcraft will introduce the different beer styles and their origins on Friday, 29 October from 7–8:30pm. Dress up in a Halloween costume to enjoy a special 10% discount on the day.⁣ Walk-in tickets are $200, but we recommend booking ahead for $150 because these sessions usually sell out.

The King Ludwig Oktober Pass is now on sale for $580 for six glasses of draught beer, two signature mocktails and two snacks, featuring a great range of German beer that includes light lagers, Bavarian wheat Weissbier and rich and roasted Dunkel. Snacks include squid rings with garlic dip and salted egg popcorn chicken. A fully redeemed beer passport can then be used as a $50 cash voucher for more beer or food. Marco Polo German Bierfest-cation (October)

The Marco Polo German Bierfest is a major Oktoberfest event in Hong Kong. The first one was held in 1992, but it was cancelled in both 2019 and 2020. This year, they’re dipping their toes back into festival territory with the German Bierfest-cation at Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel. Available to book right now and stay until 31 October, the package is priced from $929 per night for two people and includes access to games in the activity zone, an in-room German set dinner with beer and never-sold Bierfest 2019 collectables. Moonzen Oktoberfest Experience (Fridays & Saturdays in October)

Moonzen Brewery is releasing their special Oktoberfest Märzen beer especially for brewery tastings in October, with a 600ml beer stein giveaway (while stocks last). The Märzen style is an elegant amber lager known for its toasty malt flavour, and it’s launching at the brewery on Friday, 8 October. Brewery tour tickets are $378 ($268 for VIPs) to enjoy tastings of this beer and other Moonzen brews from 6–10pm on Fridays and Saturdays in October. You can bring food or order in.

Did you know?

The official Oktoberfest 2021 dates are from Saturday, 18 September until Sunday, 3 October. Though the dates are always different each year, Oktoberfest generally starts in late September and ends on the first Sunday of October. However, Oktoberfest 2021 in Germany has been cancelled (again).
